Our Global Vision - Strategic Plan 2008-2010

ICOM is you, ICOM is its members
2007 06 14

Since December 2006 a working group has been drafting a Strategic Plan for ICOM for 2008-2010 which is designed to identify the key directions of our organization over the next triennium. We have been guided in our work by several words that grew out of the review of the 2005-2007 Strategic Plan: effective, flexible, focussed, realistic and simple.

The working group includes representatives from National and International Committees: Henry Bredekamp and David Fleming, representatives from ICOM’s Secretariat: John Zvereff (former Secretary General), Piet Pouw, and Jennifer Thévenot, members from the Executive Council: Nancy Hushion, Elisabet Olofsson (chair), Martin Schaerer, Michel van Praet and Rick West, and Isabelle Vinson from UNESCO.  Alissandra Cummins and Jack Lohman (chair SP2005-07 Review Committee) are ex officio.

ICOM’s Strategic Plan must have meaning for every member and every component of ICOM - each national committee, international committee, regional alliance and affiliated organisation - each member of the network, a word you will see used often in the Plan. At the same time, such a Plan is an over-view and does not mention each and every aspect of what ICOM is.  Each of us should be inspired to identify how best we can contribute to the success of the Plan.

We are already planning for the Plans beyond 2008-2010 when everyone will be more involved in the early planning stages; the Advisory Committee will work on future plans as a regular topic.

Due to timing pressures, the 2008-2010 Strategic Plan has been developed by a smaller number of representatives.
