International Association of Libraries and Museums of the Performing Arts Société internationale des bibliothèques et musées des arts du spectacle

SIBMAS was founded in 1954 as a section of the International Federation of Library Associations (IFLA) and became an autonomous association in 1976. SIBMAS has two membership categories: individual members working in the field of documentation of the performing arts, and institutions such as libraries, universities and museums specialising in theatre, dance, mime and puppetry. In order to improve the skills and knowledge of its members, SIBMAS works to promote research in the performing arts field and to establish international contacts among specialised libraries, museums and documentation centres. The association also aims at facilitating international exchanges. Every two years, SIBMAS organises an international congress. Its members have the opportunity to collaborate in various projects, such as the publication of the SIBMAS International Directory of Performing Arts Collections, the International Bibliography of Theatre (IBDT) and the World Encyclopedia of Contemporary Theatre.

SIBMAS fut créée en 1954 dans le cadre de la Fédération internationale des associations de bibliothécaires et est devenue une association autonome en 1976. La SIBMAS a deux catégories de membre : des membres individuels qui travaillent dans le domaine de la documentation des arts du spectacle et des membres institutionnels comme les bibliothèques, les universités et les musées spécialisés dans le théâtre, la danse, le mime et l'art des marionnettes. Les objectifs de la SIBMAS sont les suivants : promouvoir la recherche pratique et théorique pour la documentation des arts du spectacle, et établir des contacts internationaux entre les bibliothèques, les musées et les centres de documentation spécialisés pour améliorer les compétences et les connaissances de ses membres. La SIBMAS vise également à faciliter les échanges internationaux. Les membres ont l'occasion de participer à des congrès qui ont lieu tous les deux ans. Ils peuvent aussi collaborer à plusieurs projets, notamment à la publication du SIBMAS International Directory of Performing Arts Collections, à l'International Bibliography of Theatre (IBT) et à la World Encyclopedia of Contemporary Theatre.
