📨 Following the special call published in October 2020, ICOM’s Strategic Allocation Review Committee (SAREC) has selected 8 projects focused on supporting #museum professionals worldwide in the adaptation to the new health-related measures that are affecting our sector.

📄 Projects range from #ContemporaryCollecting, to the development of new educational platforms, to museum #leadership.

ICOM is preparing an Issue of #MuseumInternational titled Empty Museums which is expected to be published in December 2021.

We invite you to send in articles that reflect on the variety of challenges brought about by the latest crisis to impact the museum field.

❗Interested authors are to send in proposals before 23 April 2021.

Happy International #MotherLanguageDay! This year’s event focuses on promoting awareness of linguistic and cultural diversity and multilingualism. 🕊️

❗️Every two weeks a language disappears from the world and with it a part of our common heritage. Museums have a major role to play in the preservation of #IntangibleHeritage, such as local traditions and languages 🗣️

🏛 There are a few language museums around the World! For example, the @highland_village museum in Nova Scotia is a living history museum that promotes the history, culture and language of the local gaelic community.

🇧🇷 The @museunacional1818 in Rio held a vast archive of textual and sound materials referring to indigenous languages. Following the fire in 2018, the museum and the World suffered an immense loss, but over 190 languages/varieties are still recorded!

💙 On this day, we reiterate the need for policy and decision makers worldwide to allocate adequate funding to #museums and heritage institutions so they can continue safeguarding our common intangible heritage and promoting #HumanRights

On December 10 at 14:00 UTC+1, join us for the webinar “Defining the museum in times of change: a way forward” ✏️📅

The two newly appointed MDPP2 co-chairs, Lauran Bonilla-Merchav and Bruno Brulon, and ICOM President Alberto Garlandini will describe the methodology to encourage members and Committees to actively participate in the process of creating a new museum definition proposal.
