CIDOC

INTERNATIONAL COMMITTEE FOR DOCUMENTATION

4 - 9 September 2011
Sibiu, Romania
Conference CIDOC 2011
Theme: Knowledge management and museums/La gestion des connaissances et les musées
The world of museum documentation is continuously changing, so getting together to network and exchange experiences is essential if you don’t want to get left behind. A well established international event, the annual CIDOC conference is the ideal place to keep in touch, bringing together experienced professionals and newcomers for six days of lively workshops, informative presentations, fascinating study visits and productive working group meetings – learning, sharing ideas and making contacts.
“Knowledge management and museums”, this year’s conference theme, focuses on the fundamental role of museum documentation: from broad philosophical and strategic issues to innovative techniques in information science. Knowledge management lies at the very heart of CIDOC's concerns since recording and transmitting knowledge about collections and their history is the ultimate objective of all museum documentation.
The conference will take place in the charming city of Sibiu, Romania. The programme promises to be varied and stimulating, packed with high-quality papers and poster presentations, tutorials for both experienced and new colleagues, study visits and social events. And thanks to Romania’s rich linguistic heritage, translation in four languages will be available – English, French, Spanish and Romanian – creating a very cosmopolitan atmosphere.
