A workshop on training and professional development in museums in South Africa

25 April 2012 - On 23 February, 2012, the Ditsong National Museum of Cultural History, in Pretoria, hosted a workshop on Mapping Museum Training and Professional Development.
Sixty or so professionals from the South African government, museum organisations and institutions participated in this event.

During this workshop, participants notably came to the conclusion that museums must embrace change by defining a training strategy for future generations of multidisciplinary professionals, so that skills and knowledge can be transmitted. The development of strong and sustainable partnerships between the core entities in the sector appeared as fundamental to this emerging issue. To reach this goal, the creation of a task team comprising representatives of the main museum institutions and the government was decided upon at the end of the day.
