It is annual meeting season for many of ICOM’s National and International Committees, with many of them meeting this month to discuss a wide variety of themes in venues around the world.
To start off, MPR (ICOM International Committee for Marketing and Public Relations) will hold their annual conference on the theme Museum Branding: Redefining Museums from 2-5 September in Taipei, Taiwan. Next, CIDOC (ICOM International Committee for Documentation) will meet in Dresden, Germany for a meeting on the theme Access and Understanding – Networking in the Digital Era from 6-11 September, while COSTUME (ICOM International Committee for Museums and Collections of Costume) meets in Nafplion and Athens, Greece from 7-13 September to discuss the theme Dress and Politics. ICOM Serbia will then host a regional conference on Museums and Cultural Tourism in collaboration with ICOM Bosnia and Herzegovina, ICOM Montenegro, ICOM Croatia, ICOM Macedonia and ICOM Slovenia from 8-10 September in Zlatibor, Serbia, while ICMS (ICOM International Committee for Museum Security) meets in Copenhagen, Denmark from 8-12 September for an annual meeting on the theme Implementing & Maintaining Security & Safety at Cultural Institutions with Fewer or Limited Financial Resources Today and in the Future.
Next, three National Committees, ICOM Germany, ICOM Russia and ICOM USA, will come together for a joint annual meeting in St. Petersburg, Russia from 9-14 September to focus on the theme of Museums and Politics. IC MEMO (ICOM International Committee of Memorial Museums in Remembrance of the Victims of Public Crimes) will then meet from 15-17 September in Falstad, Norway to discuss the theme Memory and Learning in a Changing World and ICOM-CC (ICOM Committee for Conservation) will hold its 17th Triennial Conference in Melbourne, Australia from 15-19 September on the theme Building Strong Culture through Conservation. Then, the FIAMP festival, organised by AVICOM (ICOM International Committee for Audiovisual and New Technologies of Image and Sound), will be held in Moscow, Russia from 18-21 September. This competition is an international professional event designed to promote the achievements of museums making use of new image and sound technologies. AVICOM’s General Assembly will be held during the festival, on 20 September.
ICOM New Zealand will also meet in September, holding their conference at the Auckland Museum from 22-23 September on the theme Pacific Connections: Culture, Connections, Museums and Research. Meanwhile, ICAMT (ICOM International Committee for Architecture and Museum Techniques) will hold their 40th annual conference on the theme On Top of History: Site Museums from 22-24 September in Tbilisi, Georgia. Lastly, ICEE (ICOM International Committee for Exhibition Exchange) will hold their Annual Meeting on the theme Involving New Museums, New Partners and New Incentives in Exhibition Making and Exchange in four Finnish cities, namely Helsinki, Espoo, Mänttä and Tampere.
