November 2010 - Hans-Martin Hinz is elected President of ICOM during the 22nd General Conference in Shanghai

Hans-Martin Hinz was elected President of the International Council of Museums (ICOM) on 12 November 2010 in Shanghai, China, during the organisation's triennial General Conference. Germany-based Hinz succeeds Alissandra Cummins, the first female President of ICOM, who served from 2004 to 2010.

The newly elected President will head an organisation that boasts a network of 30,000 museums and museum professionals spread over five continents. Hinz believes that in the next few years ICOM should strengthen its role as a service agent for its members in order to promote international and intercultural exchange and cooperation.

In the next three years, Hinz will chair an Executive Council made up of 16 members, also elected during ICOM's 22nd General Conference in Shanghai.
