ICOM and ICOM-US Make a Splash at AAM

The 2012 AAM Annual Meeting and MuseumExpo was held from 29 April to 2 May in Minneapolis-Saint Paul around the theme Creative Community.

ICOM-US and the ICOM community was actively involved in this yearís meeting, hosting several sessions representing museums and museum projects around the world.


ICOM hosted a booth at the MuseumExpo for three days, as a meeting point for ICOM members at the AAM event and a space for information on the latest ICOM projects and programmes.
 
ICOM-US also participated in a number of sessions, receptions, and events.  ICOM Members and international guests had opportunities throught the meeting to internact with ICOM's President, Dr. Hans-Martin Hinz, and DIrector General, Julien Anfruns.
 
Several ICOM International Committees organized academic presentations related to their fields as part of the AAM Program.  ICOMís International Committees for Museums and Collections of Archaeology and History (ICMAH) presented their project explore-proverty.org, a collaboraitve multimedia website which explores the experience of poverty in three nations: Finland, Luxembourg, and the United States.

ICOMís International Committees for Regional Museums (ICR) and ICOMís International Committees for Museums and Collections of Ethnography (ICME) presented creative ideas from small European museums, as part of the Small Museum Day programme during the AAM meeting.

Finally, the U.S. Committee of the Blue Shield organised a Business Reception dedicated to the protection of cultural property during armed conflicts, which gathered ICOM representatives among the participants.

Thanks to these sessions, ICOMís global impact and commitment were showcased for the more than 4000 delegates attending this years' AAM Meeting.
