In Malaysia, the city of Kuching, Sarawak, and the Sarawak State Museum, are the official hosts of IMD, where museums from Indonesia and Australia are also invited to take part in the event. A professional seminar is held on May 23 and will be followed by a Museum & Community Project at Kampung Pasir Panjang, Santubong.

In the Philippines, a forum that takes place in Manila from 24 to 26 May will cover topics such as the role of museums in intergenerational dialogue, innovative disaster responses, new audience development strategies, as well as innovative practices for heritage conservation. In his keynote speech, Dr Hans-Martin Hinz  will stress the important role of museums in connecting individuals to their past to strengthen their identity, but also in making visitors more tolerant of the cultural diversity that exists around them.
