In less than one year, the 24th ICOM General Conference will welcome 4,000 museum people in Milan, Italy, for a full week of debates, exchanges and networking.
Every three years, ICOM’s General Conference gathers the international museum community around a theme defined by museum professionals. More than 4,000 experts and museum professionals meet for a whole week to exchange on museum-related topics, encompassing scientific discussions with ICOM’s International Committees and conversations on current pressing issues in the museum and heritage sphere.
ICOM’s 24th General Conference will take place in Milan, Italy, from 3 to 9 July, 2016. In 2013, the Conference was held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and in 2010 in Shanghai, China.
This year, the theme Museums and cultural landscapes will explore the concept of the “open air museum” and analyse the relationship between museums and landscapes in constant evolution. It presents both an opportunity and a challenge for museums to revive their mission and strengthen their cultural and social role, as this central issue is a strategic perspective for the museums of the third millennium around the world.
