The ICOM Rio 2013 General Conference

The ICOM Rio 2013 General Conference

The ICOM Rio 2013 General Conference will be held from 10 to 17 August, 2013: museum professionals are invited to participate in the extensive programme of the ICOM triennial General Conference, to be held for the very first time in Brazil.

From 10 to 17 August, 2013, more than 3,000 museum professionals around the world are expected in Rio de Janeiro for discussions around the theme:
Museums (Memory + Creativity) = Social change.

The General Conference is based on scientific discussions in fields covered by ICOM’s 31 International Committees (such as security, conservation or new technologies); on administrative sessions during which the General Assembly and the Advisory Committee set up the guidelines of the organisation; and finally, on forums related to museum issues. Attendees are expected to meet for a whole week dedicated to current museum concerns.

According to Julien Anfruns, Director General of ICOM, «with debates, panels and presentations, participants will explore what could be the future of museums and will shape collaborations, initiatives and answers to the current challenges they are facing.»

Registration is now open!
Information on the General Conference programme, as well as on the host city and country is available and will be progressively enriched on the newly-launched ICOM Rio 2013 General Conference website: http://rio2013.icom.museum
