In order to provide an efficient framework for mediation, WIPO and ICOM drafted a series of tools comprising the ICOM and WIPO Mediation Rules and standard forms for submitting a case as well as further information with regard to the procedure and its fees.

ICOM and WIPO jointly organise workshops designed for the training of mediators in the field of art and cultural heritage. These workshops are usually held over two days and are run by two outside session leaders.
These workshops are meant both for legal professionals wishing to acquire and develop a specific knowledge of the issues at stake in art and cultural heritage mediation, and for museums and cultural professionals desiring to acquire and improve their practical knowledge of the techniques used in this type of alternative dispute resolution.
The workshop is a theoretical, but mainly practical training.
Participants are presented with lectures on the mediation process and the specificity of the ICOM-WIPO procedural model. They then learn about the mediation techniques adapted to art and cultural heritage cases. An important part of the workshop is devoted to experiencing the situation through role playing. Participants directly deal with mock cases drawn by ICOM and WIPO, playing the two parties and the mediator in turn. The outside session leaders provide a personalised advice on the method and the attitude to adopt as mediator.
