{"id":46128,"date":"2021-10-11T10:55:30","date_gmt":"2021-10-11T08:55:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/icom.museum\/?page_id=46128"},"modified":"2024-06-25T12:20:38","modified_gmt":"2024-06-25T10:20:38","slug":"icom-imrec","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/icom.museum\/en\/research\/icom-imrec\/","title":{"rendered":"ICOM-IMREC"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"separator\">\n<h2 class=\"headline\">The ICOM International Museum Research and Exchange Centre (ICOM-IMREC) is an international research and exchange platform concerning the museum field and its related areas.<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<p>The idea was born after ICOM General Conference, Kyoto 2019, between ICOM and the Shanghai University in China, to implement Resolution 2 of the General Assembly to integrate Asia into the ICOM Community.<\/p>\n<p>It is a partnership created to encourage museums all over the world to engage in a more diverse, inclusive, and democratic cultural dialogue and collaboration among ICOM and the global museum community.<\/p>\n<p>ICOM-IMREC also provides research and exchange knowledge opportunities for ICOM members from all around the world, especially those young museum leaders from the emerging countries.<\/p>\n<p>ICOM-IMREC&#8217;s objective are, in accordance with ICOM&#8217;s missions:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>to stimulate a global think tank and an international network;<\/li>\n<li>to address critical theoretical and practical issues that the international museum community is facing;<\/li>\n<li>to promote cross-geographical and interdisciplinary collaborations for scientific research on current and emerging issues commonly shared by the museum community;<\/li>\n<li>to publish data analysis and research reports.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div class=\"separator\"><\/div>\n<p>SEMINAR: Museums, decolonisation and restitution: A global conversation<\/p>\n<p>On the 20<sup>th<\/sup> and 21<sup>st<\/sup> of March 2023 ICOM-IMREC will organize a hybrid seminar on \u201cMuseums, decolonisation and restitution: A global conversation\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The seminar will be hosted by the Shanghai University, and it will be accessible to all via a streaming platform.<\/p>\n<p>Day 1 will focus on the concept of decolonisation, touching on the museum paradigm and its decolonisation process, exploring the various ways in which the museum can be reimagined and to which extent. Processes of decolonisation in the context of the intellectual infrastructure of museums and museum practice through language, collections, workforce will be analysed. The session will conclude with the presentation of the working title \u2018Decolonisation: difficult histories and national identity\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>Day 2 will investigate the question of restitution and its different impacts on communities. Restitution law and policy and innovation will be discussed and, to end the session, restitution case studies will be presented by different speakers.<\/p>\n<p>More information on the seminar program and access to the live streaming platform <a href=\"https:\/\/icom.museum\/en\/news\/icom-imrecs-seminar-museums-decolonisation-and-restitution\/\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div class=\"separator\">\n<p><strong><span lang=\"EN-US\"><span class=\"x_font\"><span class=\"x_size\">Targeted Research Call on Public Funding for Museums<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Earlier this year, the Academic and Programming Board of ICOM-IMREC selected the winning proposal for the Targeted Research Call on Public Funding for Museums. The\u00a0International Research Alliance on Public Funding for Museums\u00a0(IRAPFM), led by the University of Qu\u00e9bec at Montreal (UQAM) was the successful applicant.\u00a0UQAM (Pr. Yves Bergeron, Pr. Lisa Baillargeon and Me Mich\u00e8le Rivet,C.M.)\u00a0<span style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit;\">is<\/span><span style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit;\"> joined by\u00a0the\u00a0Mus\u00e9e national des beaux-arts du Qu\u00e9bec in Qu\u00e9bec, Canada (Me Marc Lajoie), Te Herenga Waka Victoria University of Wellington in New Zealand (Pr. Conal McCarthy), the Universitat de Barcelona in Spain (Pr. Xavier Roig\u00e8) and the Universidade Federal Do Est Ado do Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (Dra Luciana M. de Carvalho).<\/span><span style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit;\">\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit;\">Additional researchers from India (Pr. Ambika Patel) and South Africa (Mrs. Catherine Snel) will also be involved<\/span><span style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit;\">The <strong>IRAPFM project consists of a statistical and a qualitative survey.<\/strong> First, a statistical survey will be sent to all ICOM\u2019s National Committees and the corresponding museums\u2019 supervising ministries in the coming weeks.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit;\">We invite all ICOM\u2019s National Committees to complete this important survey upon reception.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit;\">Second, a qualitative survey will be conducted among various museums across the world, selected by IRAPFM,\u00a0as representative of their respective geographical\u00a0area. This survey aims to highlight adaptative, exemplary or innovative funding practices.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit;\"><br aria-hidden=\"true\" \/>The two surveys will allow for a better identification and understanding of variations in public funding for museums and their effects worldwide.
