Synopsis: This monograph contains a selection of papers presented at the ICOM ICME 2011 Banz annual meeting on 'Dissolving boundaries, museological approaches to national, social and cultural issues'. The meeting was divided into six sessions: Challenging borders and boundaries; Objects and identity; Breaking out of the old and into the present; Telling stories; New means of communication, new ways for community involvement. For museums, boundaries is one of the topics more difficult to present to the public. Borders and boundaries may be geographical, political, social, cultural. They may be subject to change or dissolution. This collection of papers represents different points of view and expériences from around the world and raise a number of questions still active among ethnographic museums. The book is composed of three parts: Part I presents the welcome speeches and the round table on museum issues of nowadays; Part II contains the papers presented at the different sessions of the meeting; Part III gives a report of the meeting and two abstracts in German.
