Synopsis: This brochure contains the schedule programme and the abstracts of papers presented at the conference held in Beijing (China), in October 2017, and organized by the ASPAC Sub-Committee of ICOFOM, in cooperation with the School of Archaeology and Museology of the Beijing University. The conference theme reflected on the need to question the present definition of a museum by ICOM and to provide a new definition of a museum because of the evolution of the role and functions of museums in the 21st century.
