Synopsis: At the Memorial lectures organised by the ICOM Austrian National Committee, two papers were delivered that explored the specific aspects of museum work in the 21st century. Inspired by the theme of the General Conference "Museums for social harmony", the lectures addressed questions relating to the diverse social functions of museums, their tasks and relevancy for future developments. First paper by Lynda Kelly explores the impact of Web 2.0 across the museum sector and its means for museum learning. Second lecture by David Fleming explores the museum's role in creating social justice.
