This year’s event focuses on promoting awareness of linguistic and cultural diversity and multilingualism. 🕊️❗️Every two weeks a language disappears from the world and with it a part of our common heritage. Museums have a major role to play in the preservation of #IntangibleHeritage, such as local traditions and languages 🗣️🏛 There are a few language museums around the World! For example, the @highland_village museum in Nova Scotia is a living history museum that promotes the history, culture and language of the local gaelic community.🇧🇷 The @museunacional1818 in Rio held a vast archive of textual and sound materials referring to indigenous languages. Following the fire in 2018, the museum and the World suffered an immense loss, but over 190 languages/varieties are still recorded!💙 On this day, we reiterate the need for policy and decision makers worldwide to allocate adequate funding to #museums and heritage institutions so they can continue safeguarding our common intangible heritage and promoting #HumanRights
