ICOM Voices Renewing museum meanings and action with intangible cultural heritage

The 17th volume of the International Journal of Intangible Heritage has been published online.

This volume explores themes such as folklore and mythology, festivals and rituals, museology, craft, and aspects of the Convention for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage, through diverse contributions from Belgium, Cambodia, China, India, Korea, Peru, the Philippines, South Africa, Spain and Turkey among others.

As with every issue of IJIH, ICOM Voices is publishing a selected article in English, French and Spanish. For this issue, we have chosen to present the special contribution by Michelle L. Stefano on the role of intangible cultural heritage in the discussions around the development of a new ICOM definition of a museum.

In her article, ‘Renewing museum meanings and action with intangible cultural heritage’ she explores the value of intangible cultural heritage for museum work: a timely approach following the ICOM’s General Conference in Prague, where a new museum definition proposal was approved on and a new Dictionary of Museology launched.

We hope you enjoy reading this and the other insightful contributions to Vol. 17 of the International Journal of Intangible Heritage.
