The Executive Board is the governing body of ICOM
The Executive Board is the elected head of the organisation. Its responsibility is to implement the strategies identified by the General Assembly. It takes the actions required to implement the General Assembly’s decisions. The Executive Board ensures the good governance of ICOM. It oversees ICOM’s various resources (financial, human, intellectual and technical) and their development. It protects ICOM’s reputation, international esteem and public regard and provides direction to the Secretariat.

Presidency
The President of ICOM is a distinguished representative of the world museum community. As head of ICOM, the President is in charge of relations with museum institutions, while also carrying out regular duties in his or her own museum. The President ensures the continuity of ICOM’s policy orientations and represents the organisation in situations where an external party is involved. He or she delegates management responsibilities to the Director General, who is entrusted with the day-to-day monitoring of ICOM. Following the resignation with immediate effect of Suay Aksoy, the elected President of ICOM, on 19 June 2020, the Executive Board has appointed Alberto Garlandini, one of the two incumbent Vice-Presidents of ICOM, as the new President.
