The International Council of Museums is pleased to join the founding signatories and supporters of the ‘Global Call to Action to Put Cultural Heritage, Arts, and Creative Sectors at the Heart of Climate Action’ launched by the Climate Heritage Network!
As the public phase of the Call to Action campaign is launching, ICOM encourages its network to be an integral part of this transformative initiative. Our commitment has laid the foundations for what promises to be a historic movement, bringing together diverse voices from all continents, from international organisations to local opinion leaders.

Why is your support important, as ICOM Committees and ICOM members?
With COP28 approaching, now is the time to step up our collective efforts. The coming month offers a unique opportunity to make a lasting impact by urging the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) to adopt a decision on a “Joint work on culture and climate action” at the COP.
How can you get involved?
To take part, you can promote the Global Appeal campaign within your respective networks. Your active participation in spreading the message is crucial to the success of this initiative. Consider contacting your members and audiences, encouraging them to join the Global Appeal and support its objectives.
ICOM and CHN
In 2022, ICOM joined the Climate Heritage Network (CHN) as part of its 2022-24 Steering Committee in order to enhance collaboration with like-minded partner organisations and convey a strong message to museums on their role in climate action and sustainable development. In this framework, ICOM coorganised events at COP27 (Culture and Climate World Leaders Summit, Sharm El Sheikh) and Mondiacult (Mexico, 2022) alongside partners ICOMOS, IFLA, UCLG, and other partner organisations.
