In April 2020, ICOM Voices launched a special call for articles with a view to fostering collective reflection and dialogue on the impacts of Covid-19 on museums, by exploring and highlighting the solutions they developed through digital channels.
At the dawn of 2021, as the world continues to grapple with this unprecedented health crisis, museums need to go one step further by reinventing themselves. The theme of International Museum Day 2021, ‘The Future of Museums: Recover and Reimagine’, is a call for museums, their professionals and communities to create, imagine and share new practices of value (co-)creation, new business models for cultural institutions, and innovative solutions for current social, economic and environmental challenges.
In the build up to this inclusive event, the ICOM Voices team is inviting all ICOM members to send proposals for articles that will reflect on today’s social and cultural mutations, while sharing innovative practices that will build tomorrow’s museums. We encourage members to submit proposals in English, French or Spanish on the following key topics:
- Digital Presence (digitalisation; new tools; ‘hybrid’ models; digital accessibility and capacity; new cultural experiments…)
- Social Relevance and Sustainability (community; co-creation; intergenerational relations; accessibility; inclusion; education…)
- New Business Model (financial and economic sustainability; profession and management…)
- Environmental Sustainability (climate action; climate justice; community activation…)
Articles can be case studies, field reports, book reviews, interviews, exhibition or conference reviews; opinion pieces, etc.
