Podcast Podcast Museums And Chill – The museum that tells the history of women

Museums and Chill is available on Spotify and Apple Podcast

What stories are still missing from museums?

Across the world, museums are increasingly reflecting on the narratives they present and those that have historically been left out. As institutions rethink their roles in society, questions of representation, inclusion, and social responsibility are becoming central to museum practice.

As part of the global reflections taking place throughout March, following International Women’s Day, this episode of Museums and Chill – The ICOM Podcast explores these questions through a conversation with Mexican historian Patricia Galeana, founder of the Museo de la Mujer: a museum dedicated to making women visible.

Opened in 2011 in Mexico City, the Museo de la Mujer is the first museum in Mexico dedicated to the history of women. Conceived in the mid-1990s, the project emerged from a clear need: to address the absence of women’s experiences in dominant historical narratives.

Beyond its exhibitions, the museum also functions as a space for dialogue, education, and reflection, offering conferences, workshops, and public programmes that engage with ongoing debates around gender equality and human rights.
