After the success of our editorial space ICOM Voices, we now launch a podcast dedicated to sharing inspiring experiences in the museum field.
To bring you more behind-the-scenes content from our international museum community, the ICOM Voices team is launching a new and one-of-a-kind podcast, where museum practitioners and thinkers from all over the world will discuss their inspiration, strategies, innovations and challenges.
In this pilot episode, our host Mathieu Viau-Courville talks with the creators of the ICOM Voices Podcast, discussing the motivation behind the project, and giving a glimpse of what you can expect from Season 1. The podcast episodes will be in one of the official languages of ICOM (English, French and Spanish) and they will all include a transcript with the translations.
So whether you’re a seasoned museum professional, a museology student or a curious culture buff, tune in to our pilot episode for a preview of some exciting episodes to come!

Our host
Mathieu Viau-Courville is director of the Office de cooperation et d’information muséales (OCIM), France. Born in Canada, and brought up in Greece, he is interested in cross-cultural studies of museums in contemporary contexts. He sees museums –of any kind– as being inclusive spaces that enable and empower diversity and generate meaningful social experiences. For more than 15 years now, Mathieu has worked in and around national museums and universities in Canada, Spain, the Netherlands, France, the UK, and Luxembourg. He also conducted extensive field research in South America, primarily Bolivia, where he spent a total of six years, as well as Brazil, where he has been working since 2014 in the design of teaching and community engagement initiatives. He has also been developing research collaborations and workshops in Spain since 2012, particularly in Catalunya and the Basque Country. He received his PhD from the School of World Art Studies and Museology, University of East Anglia, UK.
This Episode’s Guests
Aedín Mac Devitt heads up the publications and documentation department at ICOM. After working in the press and publishing sectors in both Ireland and France, she joined ICOM’s Paris team in 2010. She is passionate about helping emerging museum professionals and researchers get their work published in international publications.
Alexandra Fernández Coego is the Head of Communications and PR of ICOM, where she directs the communication strategy of the organisation. Prior to joining ICOM, Alexandra was a foreign correspondent in Paris for the Spanish newspaper La Voz de Galicia, and she holds a master’s degree in Investigative Journalism from the European Institute of Journalism.
Laetitia Conort is Digital Communication Coordinator at ICOM’s Communication and PR Department. After a master’s degree in Museology at the Ecole du Louvre and in Cultural Project Management at Paris 8, her career has focused on communication and project coordination in the fields of performing arts, culture and heritage. She is currently in charge of ICOM’s digital platforms, including 52 websites, with the aim of improving the user experience and access to content and services.
Virginie Lassarre is Editorial Coordinator at the ICOM publications and documentation department. After graduating with a B.A. in English language and literature and a Master’s in publishing and communications, she worked in the educational publishing sector for 3 years. She joined ICOM in 2020, eager to participate in the transmission of cultural knowledge and experiences at an international level.
