Together through the 2025 General Conference in Dubai, we shape the future of museums as stewards and activators of heritage and culture, offering a platform for dialogue, collaboration and action, and driving the legacy of our collective memory. The ICOM International Symposium, to be held on 12 November 2024, is the first step in this journey towards 2025.
As a significant next step towards a high-level scientific congress, we invite you to join us online for the live stream of the ICOM International Symposium, offering you a unique opportunity to engage deeply with the emerging conference themes and to learn more how you can help chart a path towards a future where museums thrive with innovative foresight and resilience.
The symposium will explore three key themes—Intangible Heritage, Youth Power, and New Technologies—through sessions led by notable speakers, including His Excellency Zaki Anwar Nusseibeh (Cultural Advisor to the UAE President), Edward Rodley (The Experience Alchemists), and Sheikh Sultan Sooud Al Qassemi (Barjeel Art Foundation). Discussions will focus on how museums can adapt to rapid change while preserving authentic cultural connections.
For the first time in ICOM’s history, the symposium will include practical training workshops led by ICOM’s international committee experts. Workshop sessions will cover topics like collection documentation, community involvement in heritage safeguarding, and museum emergency planning, providing attendees with skills and insights they can directly apply in their institutions.
We look forward to welcoming you to follow the ICOM International Symposium online, scheduled for the 12th of November 2024. You can find more details about the agenda and live stream for the Symposium by clicking the button below.
