Synopsis: The Central Museum of Armed Forces of the Russian Federation and State Historical Museum in Moscow hosted the 2014 ICOMAM Congress held from 8 to 10 October. The goal of the conference was to present the most current research and methods in military history and to exchange the latest information about military museum collections and objects. The conference also explored problems and techniques in the conservation and restoration of weapons, armaments and military equipment, accoutrements and archival materials. Museums have a significant role to play in an ever-changing dialogue on the meaning of history which occurs between state interests, ethnic and social groups and cultural institutions. This is particularly important for military history museums. It was not possible to discuss all the issues facing the military-historical museums and collections within the conference. The conference aimed at giving an insight into the current professional practice of military and historical museums, including collecting plans, exhibiting collections, the value and significance, the visitor and museum interaction via educational and public programmes of these museums. This bilingual publication (Russian, English) brings together the presentations delivered at this conference.
