Synopsis: The book offers the text of the lectures given at the 2016 annual meeting of the German National Committee of ICOM. The purpose was to analyze the relationships between museums and the business, trade and industry sector through the world exhibitions organised during the 19th century. These world exhibitions had far-reaching consequences for the development of the museum landscape. Nowadays, the relationships between museums and the trade and industry continue to be of great importance for the museum work, since museums depend on the economic situation and are facing growing demands from the service sector for new marketing strategies, tourist marketing. Current and future challenges faced by museums were analyzed and discussing during the conference. [Publisher abstract]
