Brass Ife head, Wumunije (Osun State)
14th – early 15th c. AD, NCMM NigeriaThis head, which was created using the lost wax technique, is one of thirteen copper alloy "heads" discoverer in 1938 at Wunmonije Compound in Ife, Nigeria. Their portrait-like realism is unique in African art, and it was even suggested that such heads were evidence that Ife was the site of the lost civilization of Atlantis. 🔴 Sculpted objects, with very different features, are just one of the priceless categories of Western African heritage at risk of illicit traffic.
