ICOM and Madrid-based publisher Ediciones Akal have together published a Spanish edition of Museum Basics 4th edition, entitled El museo. Manual internacional.
This new language version is a translation-adaptation of the most recent edition of Museum Basics, which was published in English by Routledge in 2018. Museum Basics was first published by ICOM and Routledge in 1993, with the content produced by authors Timothy Ambrose and Crispin Paine together with ICOM’s International Committee for the Training of Personnel (ICTOP). The authors have since revised and adapted the content to produce three subsequent versions and it has been translated into many languages.
The Spanish edition has been published to address a gap in reading resources for Spanish and Latin American museum professionals. As with the English edition, El Museo. Manual internacional will be particularly useful for museums with limited resources and staff in a fast-changing museum field. It will also be of interest to students of museology looking to work in the sector. With more than 100 units, the publication presents up-to-date ideas and practices in the museum field, including several study examples.
ICOM members can purchase the Spanish edition at a 30% discount.
