The International Council of Museums (ICOM) is pleased to share the activities, achievements, and initiatives carried out across the global museum network during 2025.
The 2025 Annual Report highlights the collective efforts of ICOM members, National and International Committees, Regional Alliances, Working Groups, and partners in advancing museums as spaces for dialogue, innovation, education, and sustainable development. As ICOM approaches its 80th anniversary in 2026, this report reflects on a year marked by collaboration, resilience, and a shared commitment to shaping the future of museums.
Throughout 2025, ICOM continued to strengthen its international presence and advocacy efforts, reinforcing the role of museums in addressing contemporary global challenges. Through engagement with international institutions, strategic partnerships, and participation in major global forums, ICOM championed culture and heritage as essential drivers of sustainable development, social cohesion, and peace.
Highlights of the year include the continued implementation of the ICOM Strategic Plan 2022–2028, the celebration of the 27th ICOM General Conference in Dubai, the first edition of the ICOM Award for Sustainable Development Practice in Museums, the Annual Meetings, International Museum Day 2025, and the advancement of key initiatives supporting museum professionals worldwide. The report also showcases the ongoing work of ICOM’s committees and members in strengthening professional standards, fostering international cooperation, and promoting ethical museum practice.
The 2025 Annual Report demonstrates the strength and diversity of our global community and its capacity to respond to change while remaining committed to the values that unite us.
