The ICOM Prague 2022 General Conference is celebrating the Power of Museums from August 20 to 28 in Prague. In addition to the scientific program and statutory meetings, the social program of the conference will be an opportunity to discover the highlights of Czech culture.
Preconference Programme: Discover Prague! 20–21 August
An accompanying pre-conference programme of guided tours around Prague has been prepared for all participants. Experienced guides will take you to the most remarkable places of Prague, including the Prague Castle, the Prague Towers and the Historical Gardens, and introduce you to the history and attractions of this extraordinary city.
Opening Party: 22 August
The 26th ICOM General Conference Opening Party will take place in two major Czech museums: the National Technical Museum and the National Museum of Agriculture. These institutions are housed in twin monumental functionalist buildings, together they form a world-class museum complex, located in the charming Letná district of Prague. Take your chance and get to know museum professionals from across the globe. A varied programme is awaiting all participants: from cultural performances, delicious foods that celebrate Czech traditional cuisine to tours of both museums and a ceremonial carriage ride pulled by one of the world’s oldest horse breeds – the Czech Kladruber.
Museum Night: 23 August
The evening of 23 August in the centre of Prague will feature a Museum Night. It is a unique opportunity for all conference participants to experience a dedicated cultural programme with a variety of offers, be it late openings to special exhibitions, concerts, guided tours and fashion shows. The Museum Night takes place in the very heart of Prague, allowing participants to celebrate ICOM Prague 2022 with a pleasant stroll around the old town of Prague.
Flag Relay Ceremony: 24 August
This event takes place at the National Museum in Prague on 24 August. The Flag Relay Ceremony will be the occasion to celebrate the accomplishments of ICOM Prague 2022 and to formally hand over the ICOM flag, a symbolic baton entrusted to the Organising Committee of the 27th ICOM General Conference, ICOM United Arab Emirates. The members of ICOM Czech Republic made this symbolic flag by hand in the traditional cross stitch embroidery. The flag travelled to museums all over the country and passed through the hands of hundreds of colleagues who embroidered it stitch by stitch.
Excursions
ICOM Prague 2022 provides participants with the unique opportunity of getting to know the host country and its museums. The Czech Republic has the advantage of being relatively small in size and, with Prague conveniently located in the middle of the country, participants can easily discover the beauty of this Central European country and get to know different Czech museums and their excellent conservation and promotion activities. We offer 40 excursions to more than 60 museums and institutions that are ICOM institutional members.
